John Adams, The Grumpiest President

"When you're born you get a ticket to the freak show. When you're born in America, you get a front row seat." ~ George Carlin

"All people are alike. Except Republicans and Democrats." ~ Groucho Marx

"John, I can safely predict that some two hundred and two score years from now, give or take a year, a snarky Canadian will be suggesting you have a cranky nature." ~ Benjamin Franklin, July 4th, 1775
"Rubbish, Franklin! Everyone knows I have a perfectly happy perso.... dammit, Hancock, what the hell did we tell you about signing the Declaration with a normal signature?" ~ John Adams, July 4th, 1775

Happy Fourth of July to my American readers! To mark the occasion, in recent years I've featured spots of interest, some of which I have visited myself, and others that are on the proverbial list. Each year I choose from half the states, and move onto the other half in the following year. Enjoy, and have a wonderful day.

  1. John Adams has been my favorite president ever since I first saw the musical "1776" (I movie I suspect you wouldn't like.) Yes, he was obnoxious and disliked--but he was smart enough to at least admit it! Come to think of it, he was the original Grumpy Cat.

  2. You should have included that Grumpy Cat with the same response to fun!

    Even grumpy, he'd probably be more popular today than either Trump or Clinton...

    1. I'd vote for Grumpy Cat:

      "If we don't spend money we don't have, people might not vote for us!"

      "Good."

  3. Gorgeous photos, thanks for sharing. St. Augustine is 2 hours from Tallahassee and it's one of my favorites. Gorgeous!

  4. @Mark: I have seen snippets of the film. I have a great deal of respect for Adams- I love David McCullough's biography of him.

    @Lynn: you're welcome.

    @Norma: I should have thought of that!

    @Mark: Grumpy Cat rules!

    @Diane: I was in that city when I was a child. I still have memories of the fort.

  7. Not sure about Addams being the grumpiest president. You included part of my world. The Joshua Tree National Park. The main entrance is about ten miles due South of my house.

    I think the stovepipe hat must have been a good hiding place for something!
