Ashley Madison Versus Ashley Madison

Hacking Scandal Continues; Unlikely Affected Individuals Speak Out

New York (AP) The Ashley Madison data hacking dilemma continues to play out throughout the world after the Canadian based marital cheating website was hacked and personal information stolen by a group calling itself The Impact Team. Cheating spouses- and their sexual kinks- are being exposed. Divorce attorneys are crying with joy at the blessing that has befallen them. In offices and workplaces across the world, guilty parties are hoping their names haven’t been exposed. Ethics specialists are debating the notions of invasion of privacy and the consequences of the theft- in terms of the marriages and the notion of being branded and shamed.

“We’re one step away from The Scarlet Letter,” sociologist Alexandra DiGianna told reporters, evoking the Nathaniel Hawthorne novel. “People are either being shamed or living in fear that their incredibly bad mistake having a one night stand is about to be exposed, and all thanks to a shadowy hacker group who refuse to identify themselves and act in the role of moral inquisitor. This hacker group doesn’t care about the potential consequences- suicide, violence, or just the emotional damage this can do; they’re acting as judge and jury and moral executioner. On the other hand, hey, cheating cheaters kind of deserve having their lives thrown into upheaval, don’t you think?”

The former American president Bill Clinton seems amused by it all. “All I know is I wish this company had been around twenty years ago. I had to do my own searching and looking for whatever hot young babe I wanted to score with tonight. Would’ve made things a lot easier. Wait, don’t quote me... Hillary will kill me if she ever catches me again... I told you don’t quote me!”

A spokeswoman for Avid Life Media, the parent company of Ashley Madison, was dismissive over the scandal. “Look, it’s very simple,” Melody LeClaire told reporters with a contemptuous tone. “We give our clients a chance to get away from their unhappy lives and screw around behind the backs of their spouses. Is that so wrong? No, of course not, what’s wrong is a group of hackers thinking they can mess around with our client list and throw us all into upheaval. Wait, are you people quoting me?”

While all this plays out, another group of people are speaking out about the website and its impact on their lives. They are, in fact, people all bearing the name Ashley Madison. Most of them are, of course, women, but there are male Ashleys. All of them have, for years, been annoyed by the site’s existence, and the fact that it degrades their own names. They have been organizing as of late into a group.

“It’s very simple,” Ashley Madison of New York told reporters at a gathering of Ashley Madisons in New York City. “It’s not an easy thing to go through life with the name Ashley Madison to begin with. To be frank, it’s an adult film star sort of name already.” She paused to let that sink in. “And really, to have a website devoted to letting unhappily married people find other unhappily married people to cheat with, and then have that site hijack your name, it makes it all the more insulting. We want Ashley Madison to stop using our name. Don't make us call in the lawyers.”

Ashley Madison of Montreal agreed. “I’ve been heckled and teased relentlessly,” she explained. “My friends and family treat this like a punchline and a joke, and to be perfectly honest with you, I’m thinking I need new friends and family. Because it’s not funny.”

One of the few males in the group, Ashley Madison of Charlotte, North Carolina, agrees. “It really isn’t a joke, and yet we’re left to bear the brunt of ridicule just because of our names. It’s only getting worse the longer this thing goes on. And for a guy, let me tell you, already having the name Ashley is bad enough.” Asked by reporters where the name comes from, Mr Madison admitted, “My parents were big Gone With The Wind fans. So my full name is Ashley Wilkes Madison. Imagine going through life named after a sad sack character stuck in a story featuring Scarlett O’Hara.”

“I’m a primary school teacher,” Ashley Madison of St. Paul, Minnesota told reporters. She sounded irritated. “For years, I’ve had to explain to parents that no, I’m not that Ashley Madison, that I have no account with them, and that I would never want one. And yet with this nonsense going on, I’ve got stuck up prudish parents demanding I be fired from my job just because of my name. What is this? When did this society drift into The Scarlet Letter?”

Strangely, the only big exposure thus far in the Ashley Madison affair has been the inexplicably famous Josh Duggar- former reality show star, sanctimonious self righteous hypocrite, and occasional molester of female relatives. The ugly twit (honestly, who would want to willingly shag Josh Duggar? He looks like he was hit by an ugly stick forty thousand times) from a dysfunctional family who had political aspirations before his particular habits were exposed to the press has his name among the list of users of Ashley Madison. The Duggar family, still desperately trying to get back into reality television with their small army of fundamentalist whackjob clan members, issued a brief statement on their facebook page. “We are shocked that anyone dares to criticize our righteous and holy family, that anyone dares delve into our private lives. Josh has made some mistakes, but the important thing is that’s in the past and he’s been forgiven and whatever damage has been done doesn’t matter anymore, because like we said, that’s in the past. By the way, we’re going to put a Duggar in the White House in 2024! Definitely a male Duggar, because the only thing girls are good for are breeding.”

Hollywood has gotten into the act. Director Penny Marshall is on board to direct When Ashley Met Ashley, a new romantic comedy about the hacking scandal reuniting the stars of The Hunger Games, Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth. “It’s a great idea,” Lawrence told reporters. “Two misfits brought together by the fact that they have the same name as a cheaters website. We’re going to have a lot of fun. And I get to work with Liam again, which is good. Usually I’m cast alongside Bradley Cooper, and let’s face it, that guy’s a dirtbag.”

Reached for comment, Cooper, who’s currently filming The Hangover Part Four: Sleazier, Raunchier, and Uncut, sounded irritated. “She said what?

The Ashley Madison matter has had at least one happy ending (not that kind of happy ending, get your minds out of the gutter). Ashley Madison, a doctor in Boston, came into contact with Ashley Madison, professor of history at Harvard. The two women hit it off, and Professor Madison proposed marriage to Doctor Madison. The two are getting married next spring, and spoke with reporters at the gathering of Ashley Madisons. “We’re very happy,” Doctor Madison said.

“It might sound very odd,” Professor Madison admitted. “Falling in love with someone and then marrying them, when both of you have the same name. And we’re probably going to have to figure out the mail thing- I mean, a letter could be meant for her, for instance, when I might be thinking of opening it.”

Doctor Madison shrugged. “We’ll sort that out. It’s strange, that our mutual dislike of having our names dragged through the mud by this sleazy excuse for a website led us to meet each other... who knows if we’d met otherwise?”

North of the border, and out west, reporters sought out a man who’s often been confused for someone else for his comment. Legendary Mountie Lars Ulrich was found at his detachment, seeming to be as cranky as ever when he noticed the arrival of a horde of reporters and met them outside. “If any of you ask me one damned thing about Metallica, I’ll rip you in half,” he warned in a low, angry voice.

It was quickly established that the horde of reporters were, in fact, real reporters who fully understood that the Mountie was an entirely different Lars Ulrich than the half deaf and slightly demented Metallica drummer. The Ashley Madison matter was brought up, and the inspector was asked about his perspective in going through life with a name that was constantly mistaken for someone else. The inspector pondered that a moment, and then said, “As irritating as it is to be mistaken for a demented drummer who doesn’t look like me, at least it’s not as annoying as this would be.”

There was a stir among the crowd, and another reporter arrived with a cameraman. “Lars! Lars! Skip Collins, Entertainment Tonight!” Inspector Ulrich looked irritated. The real reporters backed up, both for their own safety, but also to give the Inspector plenty of room to strike. “The question everyone wants to know... will Metallica be involved in the soundtrack for When Ashley Met Ashley?”

The Inspector threw his first punch, sending Collins flying. Five minutes later he was done, his annoyance satisfied. Collins is expected to be in a body cast for the next six months in hospital, no doubt having nightmares about an angry man in red serge.

A Day In The Life Of A Cat

Before we get started today, some links to see to. Yesterday having had been a Sunday, we had a Snippet Sunday post. Norma had turn of the year reflections.  Parsnip had a tennis post. Eve wrote about blogging rules. Krisztina had a home decor post. The Whisk had something to worry about. And Mark wrote about winter.

Today we get the cat's point of view!

7:25 AM. Slowly waking up. Staring up at the ceiling. Contemplating breakfast. Where is that staff of mine?

7:36 AM. Well there you are, staff. How about we get ourselves started on breakfast? And don't even think of field rations, because you know I hate field rations.

7:39 AM. For some reason, the staff seems to delight in giving me field rations despite my many demonstrations of my dislike for them. I sigh in dismay and walk away.

7:53 AM. The staff is on her way out off to that work place she goes to. Where ever that might be. As opposed to spending all day catering to my every whim. Well, at least I'm inside, as opposed to stuck outside all day.

8:12 AM. Staring outside, watching the flying lunches at the bird feeder. Somewhere in the distance I can hear the barking of that annoying dog from down the road.

8:26 AM. Eating some of the field rations.

8:53 AM. Back on the windowsill to look outside. How long is it until the staff gets home?

9:00 AM. Oh, wonderful... it's that annoying dog on my property. He's looking as dimwitted as ever, I see. Dogs usually are.

9:01 AM. Hissing and screeching my disdain for the dog. Go away! Leave! Vamoose! Scram!

9:03 AM. Expressing my disdain in the harshest of ways. Vile, vile hound! Begone! To borrow a phrase from the Bard, a plague on both your houses!

9:06 AM. Finally. There he goes. Don't come back, dog! I can't stand the sight of you!

9:25 AM. Light snow falling outside. I should see what the weather forecast is.

9:27 AM. The dimwit with the Weather Network is panicking and talking about SnowApocaMaggedon coming this weekend. He's telling everyone to be prepared to eat the dead if need be.

And weather forecasters wonder why we find them so ridiculous.

12:26 PM. Waking up from nap. Feeling nice and toasty. I see the snow continues out there.

12:43 PM. Sigh. One of the many reasons I dislike having my staff go off to work. There's no one around to give me milk on demand.

2:31 PM. Burrowing under the covers in the staff's bed. Of course, for some strange reason she made it this morning... I don't really know why

2:53 PM. Engaged in a spirited bout of upending the scatter rugs in the upstairs hall. Well, I must amuse myself in some fashion while the staff is away, and for some reason she stores the balls of yarn where I can't get at them.

5:15 PM. Front door opens. Staff comes in. Well hello there, staff, did you by chance bring me back any catnip or other worthy tributes?

6:37 PM. The staff and I are having dinner. Lamb certainly agrees with me, particularly with milk on the side. For some strange reason, the staff insists on having cauliflower with her meat.

7:06 PM. Carefully supervising the staff while she washes dishes. A staff like mine requires close supervision, after all.

7:25 PM. The staff settles in with a DVD. What are we watching, staff? Tell me it stars a cat.

7:27 PM. Oh, it's that movie with Richard Gere playing a reporter annoying the impending bride Julia Roberts for a couple of hours.

Well, at least this film features a cat.

8:06 PM. Poor Chris Meloni. His character doesn't even get that he's not going to get the girl. Well, the girl who's the star of the movie.

9:17 PM. Movie's almost done, happy ending, the happy couple get married... and yet the cat still gets called a traitor by Richard Gere. For letting Julia Roberts into the apartment? Staff, we need to get the director to amend that.

11:17 PM. Watching the national news with the staff. It seems that forecaster from the Weather Network has been put on indefinite mental health leave after suggesting Donner Party recipes to get through the winter.

11:32 PM. The staff is off to bed. Good night, staff. I'll be up in the night, no doubt. And before I forget, you do realize there's little point in making that bed in the morning since I'll just burrow under the covers anyway, right?

A Day In The Life Of A Dog

Some links before I get started today. Norma had a passage at her Wordpress blog. Yesterday having had been a Friday, Parsnip had a Square Dog Friday post. Cheryl has been dealing with some sad impending news about one of her cats. Shelly had a wrapup for her holiday Silly Santa tale. Krisztina had a recipe at her blog. And the Whisk had a Friday question.

Now then, it is time once again to have ourselves the dog and cat points of view in these pages, starting as always with the dog first.

7:45 AM. Waking up. Big stretch. Dreamed of chasing squirrels. For some reason the little buggers got away.

7:52 AM. Good morning, human! Top of the morning to you, or is it too early in the year to start with an Irish turn of phrase? Say, tell me... have you considered getting breakfast together?

7:58 AM. Wolfing down breakfast. Yum yum yum yum!

I'm still off my all time record for finishing it fastest. I must be slipping. Maybe it's a winter thing.

8:04 AM. Out the door for my run, barking my head off. Life as a dog is a life for me. Which helps, of course, seeing as how I am a dog.

8:28 AM. Stopping in to see Spike the Magnificent, Tormentor of Squirrels. We greet each other in the customary fashion of all dogs by sniffing at each other's hindquarters. Don't ask.

8:32 AM. Spike and I discuss movements of the enemy. We agree on the theory that the squirrels are gathering nuts and seed from feeders for some nefarious purpose. Perhaps it's to compete with Amway salesmen for most obnoxious unwanted visitors to homes. Perhaps it's for world domination.

8:35 AM. Spike informs me his human broke her New Year's resolution to not eat chocolate two days into the year. I wonder why humans make such resolutions. I also wonder what chocolate tastes like, but apparently it's not good for doggies.

8:43 AM. Spike and I part ways after agreeing to keep an eye out for the nefarious deeds of those annoying squirrels. If they're out for world domination, we must stop them. It's in our sacred duty as dogs.

8:58 AM. Passing by the house where that cranky cat lives. I decide to pop on by and see if she's outside.

9:01 AM. No, she's inside, but she's there behind that window, hissing and yelling at me. Come on, cat, you know I'll never give up on the idea that one day you and I might get along. I mean, really, if the Montagues and Capulets could get along after... whatever happened in that story, I wasn't really paying attention when the human was watching it. I was too busy watching the fan spin in circles.

9:03 AM. Great. The cat is giving me the finger again. I wonder what's got her whiskers tied up in a proverbial knot.

9:06 AM. Departing the property. Cats. Are they ever going to be understandable?

9:28 AM. Back home. Light snow falling. Barking as I arrive to alert the human to let me in.

9:29 AM. Hello, human! Pleased to see you! I've had my morning exercise. I think a nap is in order. Unless you're baking?

9:33 AM. Circling around three times in the living room by the fireplace before settling down. Nice and toasty warm in here. It should put me right to sleep.

11:55 AM. Waking up. Weird dreams. Dreamed of chasing a porcupine... despite the fact that I know better than to chase porcupines. I know that one from bitter experience.

Well, who says dreams have to make sense?

12:05 PM. The human is in the midst of making lunch. Soup and sandwiches. Well, I don't think she'll let me have soup, but I can certainly mooch for some sandwiches, right?

12:10 PM. Have successfully used the sad eyes trick to get the human to give me a cheese sandwich. Yum yum yum!

4:55 PM. Waking up from second nap of day. A look outside. Sun's already down, but the lights are on outside. Hmmm, we're getting a lot of snow.

6:32 PM. Dinner with the human. I delightfully chow down on some meatloaf. Yum yum yum!

8:20 PM. The human puts a DVD on. I wonder what she's going to watch. Just as long as it's not Old Yeller. I can't stand watching a tragedy.

8:52 PM. We're watching that space thriller thing. The team of misfits with the goofball who for some reason ends up becoming a leader, the green skinned woman with that temper, the weird big guy with serious anger management issues, the walking talking tree, and the cranky raccoon.

Human, are you aware that raccoons don't actually talk English?

Come to think of it, why do all these aliens speak in the same language as each other?

9:35 PM. I'm confused. Why is Ronan such a drag to be around? Was he not happy when he was a child? Didn't he have a dog? Maybe if he got bellyrubs once in awhile he wouldn't be a cranky crankpants.

And what happened to that dog in the astronaut outfit we saw earlier?

10: 12 PM. Okay, so all's well that ends well, so to speak, but that still doesn't answer my concerns. Shouldn't this movie have been about that dog in the astronaut costume instead?

11:35 PM. The human is off to bed. Good night, human. I might be up later on to check on you. Though I am considering calling that production studio and giving them a bark of my mind.
