We Interrupt This Blog To Bring You This Important Message

Can we declare war on spammers? It would be ever so lovely, wouldn't it?

I didn't mean to blog today, but one of the annoying subspecies homo spammeritis irritatingus has been active in the comments in the last day or so, here and in the blogs of some good friends and fellow partners in crime. Odds are this nitwit's turned up in your blogs too, so if he has, delete this nitwit and his comment immediately.

Who's the proverbial suspect?

A commenter called Prasetyo, whose comment was the same, of course:

"You have a great blog. Please visit my blog and take your comment at..."

Followed by a link that led to a rotating series of pure spam.

Mein Gott, I despise spammers. A thousand of them chained together at the bottom of the ocean constitutes a good start.

Anyway, if you've got this idiot commenting on your blog, delete him. You'll feel better. I'll feel better. He won't, but what he thinks doesn't count. All he wants to do is spam you.

I've done my public service for the day. If you see a spammer, call the local authorities. They are known to occasionally be carriers of rabies, and you don't want to turn out to be just like them, do you?

  3. When he/she spammed me today, I had a feeling it was a spammer....but I wasn't sure. Luckily I didn't fall for the "click on my link"...I had a feeling it wouldn't be good if I did.

Thanks for the heads-up! You saved my blog!!!

  4. Absolutely no-one has tried to spam me. What's everybody else got that I haven't? I'm beginning to feel deprived.

  5. I really think many of these spammers are from Twitter. btw, I googled that name and 3 twitter accounts came up. One was blatantly a jerk.
Roger, you have the captchcas, which helps to stop them. Alas, but that's what I had to do too.

I'm with you, William. Let's declare war on them. They're no match for WMD.

  7. I despise spammers. Not to mention, the latest research I've seen shows that less than 1% of spam is actually effective. I have deleted almost 12,000 spam comments on my blog.

  8. I admit though, I've been thrilled to see the spam filter working on WMD. I know that seems weird, but it means that the pages are being indexed by the search engines and getting out there, otherwise the spammers wouldn't find it. This means that legit people can find it now.

Comments and opinions always welcome. If you're a spammer, your messages aren't going to last long here, even if they do make it past the spam filters. Keep it up with the spam, and I'll send Dick Cheney after you.
