"Tis now the very witching time of night, when churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out contagion to this world." ~ William Shakespeare
"Where there is no imagination there is no horror." ~ Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
"Now about these ghosts. I'm sure they are here and I'm not half so alarmed at meeting up with any of them as I am at having to meet the live nuts I have to see every day." ~ Bess Truman
"Paul, I'll make you a deal. Within three years, you and your band will be the most famous musical act in the world. You'll have everything you could possibly want. Fame, women, adulation, whatever. But there is a price. Now, I know, you're worried about my demanding your soul in return for all of that, I mean, after all, that is my reputation. Don't worry. I've done that a lot, and frankly, after awhile, collecting souls becomes, well, kind of boring. No, that's not the price at all. The price is this. You're going to write a song called Hey Jude, and for the rest of your life, every time you get up in front of a crowd, you're going to have to sing that song. It might not be that grating at first, but you'll be sick and tired of singing it by the time you're fifty. Still, you won't have a choice." ~ The Devil, Liverpool, Hallowe'en 1959
It's Hallowe'en tonight, the night of ghosts, goblins, witches, and vampires (not to mention a mummy or two). Trick or treaters are setting out their yearly patrols in search of candy. Costumed revellers are attending parties. Teens too old for trick or treating are plotting pranks. And pet owners are dressing up their animals.
Today I thought I'd let the images speak for themselves. For those of you who might not have seen them yet, check out Windchaser's Journey, where my partner in crime Norma has a Hallowe'en blog up today that's going to annoy the descendants of Mary Shelley. You can also find the same blog at her Blogger page as well, if that's your preference. And also have a look over at Basking In The Afterglow, where our alter egos take a decidedly naughty approach to the holiday.
In the meantime, I leave you to the cartoons, pictures, and editorial cartoons marking the day. Have fun, Happy Hallowe'en, and whatever you do, don't look over your shoulder, because there's a ravenous zombie plot bunny staring at you right now, and if you look at him, it's going to trigger his attack response. So don't look!
