A Day In The Life Of A Dog

Before we get things started today, some links for you to peruse. Norma has some thoughts on movie reboots. Angryparsnip has another Square Dog Friday. Talli will be releasing a new book soon. Eve has a Mother's Day poem at her blog.Mark did a guest blog for his new book. Shelly has some thoughts of the week. Krisztina has suggestions for making margaritas. Deb has a new antique at her blog, and it's up for the approval of Audrey. At The Maple Syrup Mob, Jane and Chris have the view from the window. And the eight pups steal the show at the Checkerboard Aussies.

Now then, it's time for another round of dog and cat blogs, and as usual, we start off with the point of view of the canine...

7:25 AM. Slowly waking up from deep slumber. Had dreams of chasing my own tail. For some reason it remains elusive.

7:30 AM. Looking out the window for any sign of the enemy, aka that annoying squirrel. I hate that irritating little bastard...

7:40 AM. Good morning, human! It rained last night. I'd like to go out and explore and look for mud puddles. But breakfast would be smashing first. How about some kibbles?

7:44 AM. Just finished wolfing down breakfast. Came within two point eight two seconds of my all time fastest record of finishing the first meal of the day.

7:46 AM. The human lets me out the door. Bye, human! I'll return with a full report on mud puddles and pools of water.

7:55 AM. Running through the back fields, barking my head off.

8:20 AM. I've found it! The mud puddle to end all mud puddles!

8:23 AM. Busy circling around the mud puddle, examining closely, taking stock of the depth of the mud, the textures and colours, the size of the puddle. This is truly the mother of all mud puddles. How can I resist?

8:40 AM. Splashing around in the mud. Is there anything this fun?

8:55 AM. Something catches my attention. Movement out in the clearing. I take a look. Hey, it's that cranky cat from down the road. Hello, kitty!

8:56 AM. I saunter out of the mud. The cat looks at me as if I'm something thoroughly unpleasant. There are so many times I really don't understand the ways of cats.

8:57 AM. Saying hello to the cat, wagging my tail to demonstrate my friendly intentions. Why can't you and I be friends

8:58 AM. The cat hisses at me as I approach. Come on, you could stand to benefit from a mud bath. It's a whole lot of fun, you know!

8:59 AM. The cat continues to hiss. I sigh in dismay. Come on, if Reagan and Gorbachev could break bread together, you and I can make peace, right?

9:00 AM. The cat walks away. I will never understand cats.

9:30 AM. Okay, I've had enough fun in the mud. Time to go home.

9:47 AM. Approaching home. I think the mud's all dry.

9:50 AM. Wagging my tail as I come into the yard. The human sees me. For some strange reason she starts shrieking.

9:52 AM. Despite my best efforts, the human has prevented me from getting inside. I am being subjected to the attentions of the garden hose. She is muttering some choice words under her breath as she washes me. Oh, come on, human! It was a mud puddle! How could I resist?

10:05 AM. Finally, the human's finished with the hose washing me off. Time to get back inside, right human? I'll dry up natural... hey, wait... oh, no! Not the Towel Of Torment!!!!!!!

10:08 AM. The human is finished scrubbing me off with the Towel Of Torment. Mentions something about having to put all her clothing in the wash. Wonders if it's too late to get a hamster.

10:15 AM. Settling down in a sunbeam to take a nap. I had a productive morning, after all.

2:20 PM. Waking up from nap. Hey! I slept through lunch.

3:05 PM. The human is having tea. I do my mooch eyes thing with her. Hopefully it will score me some cookies.

3:06 PM. The human sighs and says she can't stay mad at me. Gives me a cookie. I love you, human!

6:50 PM. Having dinner with the human. I've succeeded in getting her to give me some bread rolls and beef with my dinner. Yum yum yum...

11:40 PM. The human retires for the night. Have a good night, human. I promise, I won't go near that mud puddle tomorrow.

I can't make any promises about the day after tomorrow.

@Old Kitty: what is it with dogs and mud?

@Norma: some of us are more idiots than others. My former brother in law among them...

  8. Wow, a lot of good stuff. Elusive tails I understand--but Krisztina has her priorities in the right place--as in making margaritas. Ole!
Love the spot remover cartoon especially because it goes with your muddy story. Thanks for the mention. You're the best!

  10. I'm beginning to think Emma is part cat the way she curls up and just wants to be left alone for nap time...which is all afternoon.

  11. I loved the German Shepherd. Amazing dogs. Your depiction of dogs simply does not match the dogs in my family. The cartoons, however, are hilarious.
