The second weekend of Winterlude is behind us, and I thought I'd pass along some pictures gleaned from various sites, concentrating on ice sculptures this time out...
The main sculptures are on display in Confederation Park downtown, many of them beneath shelters (it's really handy for preserving them that way)....
Totally awesome! I'm blown away by the delicacy of the carvings. What amazing talent!!
ReplyDeleteThey're all so incredibly beautiful! It's a shame they won't last forever....
ReplyDeleteBefore they started using the shelter concept, the sculptures often were at the whim of wind, sun, or the occasional bit of rain. This way they stay looking beautiful and translucent.
ReplyDeleteThe Bender/robot blew my mind! Still very jealous ...
ReplyDeleteOh, and it might not be as obvious here, but ice sculptors tend to like carving well endowed women.
ReplyDeleteI could see you climbing that rock wall!
ReplyDeleteI remember the last time I was there (around 1999), the ice sculptures were these huge blocks of ice that were so easily transformed by the artists into whatever they envisioned. It's truly amazing how they do that...
Oh My Goodness ! Fabulous !
ReplyDeletecheers, parsnip
Very nice. Thanks for the post.
ReplyDeleteI love these! I'm going to go home and carve a cupid for my man tonight. Does anyone have a hacksaw, chainsaw and ice pick I can borrow? xo
ReplyDeleteVery cool.
ReplyDeleteThose are insane!
ReplyDeleteTotally awesome! I'd hate to see them melt.
ReplyDeleteThose are some amazing ice sculptures!
ReplyDelete@ Beth: I have climbed that rock wall!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I wanted to get to that this year but the timing didn't work. There's always next year.
ReplyDeleteWow! These are beautiful. Absolutely tragic that they won't last.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous. I guess I missed this somehow.
