A Day In The Life Of A Dog

Before we get ourselves started today, I have some links to see to. Norma writes about what happens to the best laid plans. The Real Maple Syrup Mob has a visitor turning up at their place, something also noted by their human. At her blog, Shelly has a post with her grandson. Krisztina has a delicious recipe for your consideration. Lastly, the Square Dogs are up and running.

Now then, I'm closing out the month with a dog and cat blog. Today, as usual, the dog starts first.

7:40 AM. Waking up by the fireplace. Nice and rested. Dreamed of chasing my own tail. One of these days I'll get it.

7:42 AM. Looking outside. Perplexed. This is supposed to be spring, right? But we're still covered with snow....

7:43 AM. A quick check of the calendar confirms that yes, we are in the last part of March. And yet we have snow falling. Seasons are a very peculiar thing.

7:45 AM. The human comes downstairs. Human, tell me, how is it we can be a week into spring and things are still snowy and cold out there?

8:05 AM. Eating breakfast. Chowing down like there's no tomorrow. Yum yum yum...

8:08 AM. The human opens the back door for me. Time for my morning run.

8:15 AM. Running through the snow. Barking at the birds as they fly overhead. Wondering if they're migrating birds. You might have come a bit early, you know...

8:35 AM. Stop in to see Spike the Magnificent, Tormentor Squirrels. We discuss the status of all this snow. Spike is of the opinion that it might stick around for seven more weeks. He thinks his humans find that bothersome. He doesn't mind it one bit. Except when it gets to that stage when you get the snow and the melt making a mess of things.

8:40 AM. Spike and I discuss the Theory Of Infinite Mudpuddles.

8:50 AM. Bidding goodbye to Spike. Still snowing. Just as long as it's not snowing in June.

9:10 AM. On my way home. Looking at the road. At least that's not snow covered.

9:15 AM. I see a dog on the road with its human. A strange looking leash from this distance.

9:17 AM. I bark hello to the dog. Oddly, she doesn't bark back. She's very focused. She's leading the human. From the look of that leash... it's more of a harness.

Oh, she's a seeing eye dog. I guess that means I'd best behave myself.

9:18 AM. The dog is leaving. That must take a lot of dedication to learn how to guide a human like that. Not to mention the ability to ignore passing squirrels. Well, have a good day.

9:30 AM. Returning home. The human lets me in. Hello, human. I think I'll dry up by the fire...

9:31 AM. The human catches me and subjects me to the Towel of Torment to dry off my fur. Rats! Foiled again!

9:40 AM. Reasonably dry, though I would have preferred to dry up naturally and avoid the Towel of Torment. Oh well, the human apparently knows me better than that.

9:42 AM. I stop by the fireplace, and circle around four times on the floor before lying down. It's a habit, what can I say? Time for a nap.

1:10 PM. Waking up. Boy, did I sleep. Did I miss lunch?

1:12 PM. The human's doing dishes. Yes, I missed the chance to mooch.

2:05 PM. Staring outside. The snow seems to have stopped. Birds are flying about. They seem impatient. Yes, well, if you'd stayed further south for a couple of more weeks, you could have avoided all this.

2:10 PM. Wait... is that? Yes, it is... it's that annoying squirrel!!!!

2:11 PM. Barking my head off. Oh, to be outside right now and cornering that little bastard where he can't escape...

Look at him. He's taunting me.

One of these days, squirrel... one of these days, you'll get what's coming to you.

2:30 PM. The human is having tea. I mooch a couple of oatmeal cookies from her. Yum yum yum....

6:40 PM. The human and I have dinner. She's having shepherd's pie. I get some mixed in with my kibbles.

I remember thinking this was made of shepherd, until Spike told me it's just a normal dish.

11:15 PM. The human turns off the news. Bids me good night.

Good night, human. Maybe spring will come tomorrow, right? There's always that hope.

  1. So that's the real-life Bullwinkle?

    Does Lars have a dog? He doesn't strike me as a cat person.

  5. Holy smokes! Is that a Great Dane or a Mastiff? I guess you don't realize how big they are until you look comparatively like with a refrigerator???? lol

  6. I can't decide which one I like best. They're all adorable. My Shepherd does the feet on the floor and body on my bed. She seems to think she shouldn't get in trouble for that since she's still partially on the ground too. Must be a Shepherd thing. ;)

  7. @Norma: Lars does strike me as a dog person.

    @Jane and Chris: cuteness overrides a Dane's mischief.

    @Whisk: you're welcome!

    @Cheryl: yes indeed!

    @Diane: both are huge!

    @Kelly: shepherd dogs have a curious kind of logic!

  8. German Shepherds are fantastic dogs. The cartoon was the one with the coffee attitude, but then there was Snoopy. Everybody loves Snoopy.

  11. Dogs bring so much joy. Usually. And they can be just as rascally as cats. We lost our Golden Retriever almost 3 years ago and were devastated. But now we have twin cats we adopted as kittens and they help fill void. Plus I don't need to walk them in the morning and evening.

    Our daughter in Colorado just lost their Golden a few weeks ago but yesterday they picked up a beautiful Golden Retriever puppy. They are blissful!

    Love these photos and your repartee!
