This weekend marks the closing weekend of the Tulip Festival here in Ottawa. The festival dates back to the Fifties, with the yearly donation of tulips from the Netherlands to Canada as thanks for liberation from the Germans at the end of the Second World War. With the efforts of prominent public figures, particularly the esteemed landscape photographer Malak Karsh, the festival came into being, and each May, millions of tulips bloom across the national capital region. It also brings in a whole lot of tourists.
I've been busily photographing, though the shots contained here aren't mine. I'm still a dinosaur using film instead of digital. I'll have to remedy that post haste. In the meantime, enjoy the pictures...
They're so incredibly beautiful...will you also post your photos when you get that film developed?
ReplyDeleteAre there still places to get film developed?
Just kidding, partner....
William, these pictures are beautiful...I didn't know there was a tulip festival there until Norma mentioned it. I would love to also see your pics, too.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to figure out the photoscanners first! I've sent a picture to Norma once, and for some reason, I could never get it enlarged...
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous. Tuips are unique in their colors. These are vividly beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! I had to good fortune to visit Ottawa during the tulip festival and, OMG, just breathtaking!!
ReplyDeleteHope you can post your photos!
Oh I think this is absolutely gorgeous. The tulip is my favorite flower--and these photos are like a new box of crayons, bursting with the colors of the rainbow!
ReplyDeleteThe purple ones are spectacular, and I've never seen white tulips before. I'll put the tulip festival on my wish list.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes please cross over into the digital age, grandpa...seems we all want to see your pics as well.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful. Tulips are one of my favorites. One thing I miss about my hometown is tulips popping up everywhere in the spring.
...and you should be able to enlarge any scanned image as long as you save it in jpeg format. You could even resize it in a simple paint/drawing program.
ReplyDeleteI love Tulips and Sunflowers and Roses and Daisies. The pictures were great!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!!! Just breathtaking pictures!
ReplyDeleteI am amazed !
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat for the eyes for this desert dweller !
I like the digital camera because it is easier to use, I don't have to carry lots of extras and I can post to my computer... plus they are getting better.
But sometimes I really like photos taken with film, there is just a difference, just me I guess ?
cheers, parsnip
I'm not sure if this is the place that I went to a long time ago, but it sure looks pretty darn close. Loved it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Colours!
ReplyDeleteThere's a Tulip Festival in Holland, Michigan but those are only gorgeous colors!
Oh, gorgeous! You've made me miss Ottawa now.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I'd love to see the festival in Holland some year, too.
